Description
On a long, bone-white cottonwood branch, two herons have turned to face one another, the right-hand bird looking down its considerable bill at its companion. The canola field glows through the leaves behind them, and the low sun warms every streak on their breasts. It has the air of a doorway conversation, brief, pointed, and not entirely finished. The sweep of the pale limb carries the eye clean across the frame.
