Description
The closest portrait in the collection: a great blue heron stands atop its great wheel of woven sticks, head in sharp profile, the yellow eye taking the measure of the drone and finding it barely worth the trouble. Every twig of the nest and every slate-blue feather is rendered in the warm evening light, with the field beyond blurred to pale gold. This is the householder of the rookery, the one whose nest the others eye and whose opinions carry down the whole cottonwood row. A commanding centerpiece print from the Montana heronry.
