Description
The foreground heron lifts its head high with its wispy crest ruffled loose in the evening air, cream-colored neck shining against the dark leaves, while its companion holds a level, black-capped profile just behind. A pale cottonwood limb crosses the frame beneath them like a rail fence. There is a touch of vanity in that raised crest, and a touch of long-suffering patience in the bird behind it.
