Description
Here the rookery shows its view: beyond the shaggy-crested heron and its hunched nest mate, the field runs down to still lake water and a hazy far shore. A third bird stands rim-lit on a branch at right, neck raised, and a fourth head periscopes up from the foliage between them, nobody willing to miss whatever is passing below. The low sun edges every feather in gold, proof that even the plainest evening chores here come with waterfront scenery.
