Description
Seen from a respectful distance, the nest sits like an island in a sea of cottonwood leaves, its resident hunched low and settled in for the evening while a neighbor perches at the upper left corner of the frame, ostensibly minding its own business. Glimpses of the ripening canola burn gold through the canopy on either side. This is the rookery at its most private, the frame a reminder that out here even the gossip observes quiet hours.
