Description
A single heron settles into the heart of its nest, body angled and head turned left, while a bleached cottonwood branch cuts a bright diagonal across the foreground like a rail fence. Golden-hour light catches the blue-gray of the folded wings and sets the whole tangle of nest sticks glowing against the dark leaves, with the faded field just visible beyond. The bird has the settled look of someone whose supper is done and whose neighbors, for once, are quiet. A warm, close portrait of home at the top of the tree.
