Description
Deep in the green heart of a cottonwood, two great blue herons stand pressed together on their platform of pale sticks, one bowing its head close to the other as if passing along something not meant for the whole tree. A neighbor’s nest sits just visible in the upper corner, close enough to overhear. Through the leaves, the canola beyond has already gone gold in the evening light. A quiet, almost domestic scene from the heron rookery on a Montana home place.
