Description
Half-hidden in a wall of sunlit cottonwood leaves, a heron works its way through the branches with neck extended and wings loose, picking its footing like someone crossing a neighbor’s fence line quietly. The bird nearly dissolves into the green and gold around it, a find-the-heron frame that rewards a long look. It is the rookery at its most secretive, an errand run through the treetops that the rest of the colony was not meant to see.
