Description
Both wings thrown high and lit from behind, a heron settles into the canopy with its flight feathers glowing like parchment in the low sun. The cottonwood leaves beneath it shine green and gold, and for one beat the bird is all sail and no secrecy. An arrival this grand does not go unnoticed in a rookery, and somewhere in the leaves the neighbors surely took note. A dramatic, luminous frame from the last hour of a July evening.
