Description
Two young herons stand back to back on a pale cottonwood limb, streaked chests to the camera, each surveying its own half of the country. The ripening canola glows gold at their shoulders in the evening light. They have the look of siblings who have spent one full season too many in the same nest and have agreed, without discussion, to stop discussing it. A close, characterful portrait from the rookery’s younger generation.
