Description
Shot close over the nest rail, two young herons stand shoulder to shoulder facing opposite ways, one fixing the camera with a level stare while the other opens its bill mid-remark, evening light catching the yellow of it. Their ruffled breast feathers and the white-barked cottonwood limbs around them read beautifully at print scale, every stick of the nest sharp in the foreground. Whatever was being said, it was clearly not meant to leave the tree.
