Description
The closest portrait in the collection: a fledgling heron, still downy about the head, turns its neck fully back across its own wing, amber eye catching the last sun among backlit cottonwood leaves. Below and behind, the gray shoulder of a companion shows through the foliage, just out of the conversation. Every rich feather detail is here, along with the unmistakable posture of a bird about to say something it will claim later it never said.
